DOES ANYONE REALLY KNOW WHAT EMOTIONS ARE?
Lately, it perturbs me greatly when I hear someone say almost on a daily basis, on television or elsewhere, that someone’s emotions got out of hand, or that an angry episode was due to loss of emotional control. There seems to be much confusion apparently even in professional circles of psychology and psychiatry about the true nature of emotions. My research in scientific astrology and my background in medicine and psychiatry have given me a better grasp of the subject.
In court cases it is often commented that a murderer shows no emotions when the verdict was read. Meanwhile he is considered to have had an emotional problem of anger or other issue that caused him to commit the crime. We all agree that women are more emotional than men. Right? That is pretty much a given in all realms and professions. So if women are more emotional, then why is it that men seem to be more prone to anger and violence? I think the problem lies in patriarchy in its inclination to label all things feminine as primitive. Emotions and women are deemed to be lower brain functions mostly associated with lower animals. Intelligence is seen as being rational or without emotions. Let’s look at the facts from both a medical and even astrological viewpoint about what really are emotions, since we appear quite confused on the subject. It actually does not add up at all, since statistically, men commit most violence and are the least emotional of us. This is a “Duh” moment here. This issue needs to be cleared up once and for all because emotions are what cause us to be rational, not irrational. Here is why.
I think the problem may lie in semantics partially anyway. The word “Emote” means to portray or display emotions as in a theatrical way. Most scientific data however point to emotions as being entirely passive or receptive in nature and therefore void of being expressive. Emotion has no verb variation since no action can be ascribed to it. “Emote”, as a verb is an oxymoron. If emotions are entirely receptive in nature then there must be a mediator in the brain that translates what is felt into something that is expressed. It is impossible to feel a stimulus and simultaneously express one at the same time from the same apparatus or locus in the brain. THE ONLY FUNCTION OF A RECEPTOR IS TO RECEIVE…..PERIOD. The eye sees but it does not speak to what is seen. It also sees danger but is not responsible for the action of getting out of the way. A female vagina is a receptacle (receptor). Let’s look at the human nervous system to see if we can clarify this dilemma.
The human nervous system is set up having peripheral nerves that sense stimuli either via receptors in the eye for visual inputs, auditory inputs via the ear, and for tactile input via skin receptors and nerves. The body has to have receptors. All nerves function via receptors that are either sensory or motor. Receptors function to receive information either to (sensory) or away from the brain (motor), transmitted via the lines of communication called nerves. Receptors are our contact with the external environment. Receptivity is inherent in the function of analyzing and processing sensory input from any source. Emotions are receptors in the brain that receive all the input from the various sources. The brain itself is a giant receptor with its associated nerves and nervous structures. Receptors and emotions are therefore one and the same. They receive input only. They make no actions. The actions come from the emotions or input being conveyed to other parts of the brain to make an expression or to make an action. Anger, cannot be receptive therefore. Anger as we have stated in previous articles is more of a knee jerk response that does not even involve the brain or emotional receptors therein. It is an active not passive response. This explains why the less emotional a person is the more likely they are not going to use their brain in response to a stimulus. Instead of going to the brain, a knee jerk happens locally much like when a knee is tapped with a reflex hammer. Receptors in the brain, in more emotional people, on the contrary cause such a greater sensitive response to a stimulus that more receptive type activity is taken up in the brain….ie thought or reflection. Greater emotions cause the stimulus to be sent to the brain as a priority or to override or suppress the knee jerk response. Emotions, like water bathe the nervous system as blood bathes the whole inner body and suppresses peripheral responses to stimuli so that a higher function can take precedence….. in the brain. The less there is a central nervous system or brain the more likely knee jerk or anger or fear response will be more predominant. So higher brain activity and intelligence are directly related to this preference for stimulus processing in the brain. Such is the nature of the animal kingdom where relatively smaller brains compared to body size are present in contrast to humans. There is no such thing as an emotional decision. Bad decisions come from lack of emotion or reflection. Hold the word reflection here for we will tie it to the element water since water is the only element in nature that reflects.
Yes, water is the only element in nature that can give a reflection to the viewer. This has profound implications. It means that emotions are the real basis of thought …. reflection. Water is receptor… is emotion. Water responds to a pebble that is thrown by having a few ripples that soon disappear. Water is adaptation then, since the stimulus is received and bathed in the solution of water to be further processed or dissolved into the being of the water itself. However, throw a rock onto a metal sheet and it will actually bounce the pebble back toward the thrower. While the water retains its shape in the long run, the metal sheet has a permanent indentation where the pebble hit the surface. In other words, hard or unemotional persons are the ones that get bent out of shape and suffer permanent damage from stimuli while the water or emotional types absorb it into themselves and splash a little water (cry), but the water bounces back to it is unperturbed state in a matter of seconds in most cases. Hardness is masculine in the stage of childhood. Childhood is masculine or hard. Maturity or adulthood is soft or feminine, accruing to the growth and development of the brain via learning and experience. Hence, greater brain function or wisdom is adulthood. Adulthood is experience dominant while childhood is learning or analysis dominant…for obvious reasons. Children have a lot to learn and have much unused software space to pick up and store new information. Adulthood has more information in the software and therefore is less inclined for new input handling. Children and less emotional types can exploit and learn new technology but likewise have little wisdom to use it safely without being susceptible to malignant entities found in the cell phone for example, or creating technology that can destroy all of humanity.
The water signs in the constellations are Cancer, Pisces and Scorpio. They display the different features of water in nature. Cancer occurs in the warm months of June and July and is of the nature of hot or warm water. The warm tropical waters of the equatorial regions represent the fertility and motherliness of the sign of Cancer. This helps to explain that humans were first born into the waters of the warm fertile areas of the planet……the South Pacific. Yes, Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden were in paradise…Oceana and Polynesia, not in Africa. Sorry. Water is the most adaptable and led to these groups spreading and adapting to regions all over the globe. These islands are still considered paradise. Native Americans are direct descendants from Polynesia and are also one of the remaining remnants of the original water people from the South Pacific. Scorpio represents the water that runs through the fertile plains…rivers. Pisces is the lakes found in the colder regions of the planet.
Introversion is the prominent feature of the water types. They are the spiritual people. From an individual viewpoint these persons are more introspective and have insight generally speaking unless other more powerful influences over ride these traits….as often does happen. Personal points are stronger than the signs in general. The amount of water influence is also important. There are nine planets and other bodies to consider that also convey water tendencies. Through introspection they understand human nature more than all others. Water signs are the totally yin signs in the constellations. They are receptive and passive in nature. Calm on the exterior but bubbling inside. They are deep thinkers and highly in tune to the spiritual world. The water signs are yin/yin, Fire signs are yin/yang. Earth signs are yin/yang also and the Air signs are yang/yang. Yang is positive or masculine in nature. Yin is negative or feminine…receptive. So the water type is all receptor, the fire type and earth type are the middle of the bell curve displaying traits of both. The Air sign is all yang, masculine and analytical but not deep or receptive. These are cultural descriptions only and do not apply to individuals. Air is European, Fire is African, Earth is Asian and Water is of course, Oceana. All four elements exist in all cultures and races. It is a generalization. However it does explain the European dominance in the material plane of existence with the water types being pushed to the background for a time. Yet, time changes things and seasons change. The season for the appreciation of all types is reemerging. This will eventually lead to the end of the material and the return of the spiritual and the water types will then come to the fore. Such is the nature of life. Seasons come and they go. It is all a part of the divine plan. All cultures have a spiritual side that must be cultivated when the time arrives. It has arrived. We must learn to respect our diversity and to appreciate our similarity.
Let’s begin to respect emotions for they are the spiritual within all of us. Water may appear to be weak physically, but it is the strongest psychologically for dealing with life’s turmoil. Women cry when stressed and live longer. Grown men have a spouse or wife to help them deal with stress when they will not cry. Women keep men sane. Young men and boys become violent more often when stressed. It is not their emotions that cause this. It is the lack of emotions as the cause. Let’s learn what is a mental state and what is emotion. Remember emotions are entirely passive, not aggressive or angry. These, instead, are MENTAL STATES, not emotions. Say, “he lost his temper”, not “he did not control his emotions”; Or, “He failed to think before acting”. Bipolar, likewise, can never be due to emotions, but due to a lack thereof, since emotions take assaults and stress then flex back into shape almost instantly. The unemotional are not flexible and get bent out of shape for long periods….depressed or angry. Over stimulation of the nerves along with little emotions to put a damper on this, can cause excited states called mania. Emotion, like water puts the fire, mania or rage out. Emotions therefore create for control, not cause a lack of control. All mental illness results from lack of coping skills caused by lack of emotion or proper brain function. People who are very emotional can appear slow mentally……in reality that is patience and maturity caused by increased thought activity. The greatest minds have high function analytically and also emotionally …wisdom. Emotion is thought or reflection. You cannot be intelligent without them. Software is essential to functioning hardware.
I am calling on all who read this to make the change and take a stand, for misogyny is ingrained in our minds and in our language. We help promote abuse and rape of women who are seen as weak, dumb, and mentally inferior or primitive, if we continue to misuse or mislabel emotions as being something not good. This may not be easy. Bad habits are hard to break. Think of your daughters and mothers you are putting at risk if you do not correct your speech in this regard. Emotions are representative of the spiritual life…..sacred, as women and therefore water, are sacred.
